United States – Robert Hur’s, the Special Counsel, appearance before the House Judiciary Committee as part of the inquiry conducted by Congress with respect to impeachment of the President Joe Biden, focuses the attention of the public on the political strains associated with this President.
Controversial Report
Hur, the American prosecutor who ignited a major political crisis with a controversial report alleging Biden’s “poor memory,” will speak publicly to a Republican congressional team for the first time, as reported
Scheduled to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, Hur’s testimony comes on the heels of Biden’s State of the Union speech, where he reportedly announced his no-mercy policy and launched an aggressive re-election campaign against his predecessor, Donald Trump.
Trump’s accusations
Hur’s report, which drew ire from the White House for its portrayal of Biden, indicated that no charges would be brought against the vice president for retaining confidential materials after leaving office in 2017.
In response to the accusation, Biden, the first U.S. president to assume office above the age of 70, vehemently defended his memory, while Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed the claims as politically motivated.
Meanwhile, Trump, currently 77, faces several criminal trials, including one related to the unlawful possession of classified information.
Amid accusations of a double standard, defenders of President Trump have criticized the Justice Department, alleging that Biden cooperated more with the investigation than Trump did. Hur stressed that Biden had always been cooperative.
The House Republicans have demanded all documents related to the probe, though they claim the Justice Department has yet to launch it officially.
Baseless reports
Republicans claim that Biden’s family made the wrong decision while making profits through his vice presidency between 2009 and 2017. Whilst they have been able to provide the financial transactions that were initiated; however they have not proved their claim. The White House regards such reports as completely baseless.
The Republican-majority House has summoned Biden Jr. to an open hearing on March 20th, though it remains unclear if he will attend.
